Harold K. Mayes, Jr. CPA

Harold graduated from Rockhurst University with a bachelors in business administration with a major in accounting in December 1976. Harold started working at Agler & Gaeddert, Chartered (then Schulte Klein Gaeddert and Agler) on January 2, 1977. Harold has worked in the Firm from that day to the present, and worked his way from staff accountant up through the ranks to currently holding the position of president of Agler & Gaeddert, Chartered.

His responsibilities include the oversight and leadership of the firm as a whole, and oversees the auditing and accounting practice of the firm. His responsibilities for the audit and accounting practice include directing and monitoring the fieldwork and preparation of audited financial statements for a variety of industries and specialties, including state and local governments, not-for-profits, for profit businesses and employee benefit plans. In addition Harold is active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as a Peer Reviewer of other CPA Firms, not only in Kansas, but other parts of the United States as well.

Harold’s professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA), and the AICPA and the KSCPA Peer Reviewers. Harold is also a member of the AICPA Governmental Quality Control Center and the AICPA Employee Benefits Quality Control Center.

Harold has long been a supporter of various charitable and civic organizations in Ottawa. He has held vice president positions in the Ottawa Jaycees and was president of the organization when it finished fifth in the State of Kansas. He also held an office at the State level with the Kansas Jaycees. He has served as treasurer of the Kansas Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Ranch, Historical Buildings of Franklin County and the Ottawa Veteran’s Day Committee. He also served on the Kansas Municipal Audit Guide committee in the past. Currently, Harold serves as president of the Ottawa Veteran’s Day committee.

Harold is married to Rita and has three children and four grandchildren. When he is not working, Harold enjoys hunting, fishing, biking and hiking. Biking includes many long distance rides of over 50 miles and includes participation in the MS150 for over 20 years which raises funds for Multiple Sclerosis while participating in a two day bike ride in Kansas over a 150 mile course.
